Fuel lobby group calls for less ‘ideological purity’ and greater ethanol content in petrol

Fuels for Ireland boss Kevin McPartlan says the government’s bet on electric cars needs to be balanced with a short-term stopgap to cut emissions

Kevin McPartlan, chief executive of Fuels for Ireland: ‘The problem is the lack of pragmatism from the state'

The government’s “ideological purity” on climate change is getting in the way of pragmatic changes that would meaningfully reduce carbon emissions, a fuel industry body has said.

Kevin McPartlan, chief executive of Fuels for Ireland, said the government’s latest Climate Action Plan had delivered another set of targets, but done little to begin reducing transport emissions in the short term.

“The problem for this government has never been about setting targets. They’ve set loads of targets over the last few years and missed every one of them. The problem is the lack of pragmatism from the state where the mindset is one of ideological purity over efficacy,” McPartlan told the Business Post.
