Fears for survival of hundreds of post offices

Postmasters who turned down redundancy deal will not have enough customers for contract

TDs fear that 210 post offices with very low levels of businesses will be quietly closed in the coming years, in a further shrinking of the post office network.

Minister for Communications Denis Naughten is to be quizzed this week at the Oireachtas communications committee about the decision to shut 159 post offices through a €8 million voluntary redundancy scheme.

But there were another 210 post offices whose staff were offered the same redundancy deal byAn Post because they also had low levels of annual transactions.
