Facebook shares fell further in early trading on Wall Street this afternoon, having dropped by almost 7 per cent to $172.50 in New York last night as the social media giantfaced increasing political pressure over reports that British-based Cambridge Analytica acquired and used information about Facebook customers.

There were calls from politicians on both sides of the Atlantic for Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg to appear before them to explain how the data ended up being used by Cambridge Analytica, a political consulting firm which helpedDonald Trump during his US presidential campaign.
