Ex-wife loses legal fight for more alimony after €3.3m payment

A marriage break-up payment of €3.3 million to the former wife of a landed estate owner was on the “low side”, but “not inadequate”, the Court of Appeal has found.

The sum, which represented about 15 per cent of the woman’s former husband’s assets, was made following separation proceedings in 2005, but has now “disappeared” as a result of “poor and improvident investment decisions”.
