A former Fine Gael TD and senator has been convicted and fined for Wildlife Act offences after clearing out a “top-class habitat for nesting birds” in Kildare, the District Court heard last week.

Anthony Lawlor, who was a TD for Kildare North between 2011 and 2016, and a senator from 2018 to 2020, had cleared out two and a half acres of gorse bushes at his farm in Kill Hill in Kildare in August 2020.
