European Parliament president thanks Ireland for response to Ukrainian refugee crisis

Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament, has thanked Ireland for hosting more than 70,000 Ukrainian refugees.

She was speaking at a special joint sitting of the Dáil and Seanad to mark the 50th anniversary of Ireland’s entry into the EU.

Metsola condemned the “brutal” Russian invasion of Urkaine and said that the EU would stand with Ukraine for “as long as it takes”.
