ESRI suggests removing PRSI relief for pensioners

The think tank said the move could help fund vital resources such as the state pension system

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) has suggested the removal of PRSI exemptions for those aged over 65.

In its opening statement to the Oireachtas budgetary oversight committee, the influential think tank said this could help broaden the state’s tax base. The move has already been recommended by the state’s Commission on Taxation.
