ESB bills to rise to meet cost of storm Ophelia damage

The ESB has been given the go-ahead to recover most of the €22 million cost of Storm Ophelia from customers’ bills.

The storm last October killed three people and left around 380,000 homes without power.

The ESB used 2,500 of its own staff as well as 1,000 contractors to repair power lines damaged by the storm, which featured the highest-ever wind speeds recorded in Ireland, of 191km per hour.
