Electrical emissions reach highest level in over five years

An analysis by the MaREI Centre at UCC has found that carbon emissions from the electricity sector have risen to their highest level since 2017

Carbon emissions from the electricity sector increased by 4 per cent last year to their highest level in more than five years, an analysis by UCC researchers has found.

This marks the second consecutive year that emissions from the energy sector have increased. They stood at 10.1 million tons of C02 equivalent last year, and are now at their highest level since 2017.
