€70m concrete firm says mica levy could force it to cut hundreds of jobs

The head of a €70 million Irish concrete business has said the government’s plan to introduce a new levy on the industry could mean it will have to lay off nearly three quarters of its 600-strong workforce.

O’Reilly Concrete, an 80-year old business in Co Cavan, has warned the controversial new tax could “decimate” its export business and leave it unable to compete with companies from Northern Ireland for domestic work.
