Penneys will be as big a competitor for the country’s newest cultural institution as rival museums, according to its director.

Simon O’Connor of the Museum of Literature Ireland, which opens in Dublin next week, said venues like it are increasingly fighting big retailers and for-profit attractions for the public’s attention and spending power.
