Key battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio and North Carolina go to Republican nominee
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is leading the race for the White House this morning,
Vote counting and media projections put Trump ahead of Hillary Clinton in the key battleground states of Florida, Ohio and North Carolina, while Clinton pulled ahead in Virginia.
The turnaround come after earlier polls showed Clinton with a slight lead over Trump.
Trump has been triumphant in key swing states of Ohio and North Carolina - but several key states are still undeclared.
Both candidates scored victories in states where they expected to win, with Trump closing off conservative states in the south and midwest, while Clinton swept several states on the east coast and Illinois in the midwest.
As polls closed Clinton is projected to win in Illinois, New York, New Jersey, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, Delaware, Colorado, California, Nevada, Hawaii, Vermont and Washington DC.
Trump is projected to take Indiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, North Carolina, Utah, Ohio, Florida.
