It has been the preserve of senior academics for generations, but Trinity’s senior common room – a social club open only to high-ranking staff members – could be in line for a radical change in ethos.

Officials at the country’s oldest university are aiming to open up the 180-year-old senior common room, or SCR as it is known on campus, as they claim that the current membership rules “contribute to division in the staff community”.
