The Department of Defence is under fire for offering a new six-figure salary job at a time when the Air Corps cannot afford to cover all coastguard rescue missions.

Due to a shortage of experienced pilots on duty at nighttime, the Air Corps was unable to send out its Casa plane to provide the top cover required for the mission which cost the crew of Rescue helicopter 116 their lives last month.
