In October 2005, a car crash near Sheremetyevo Airport claimed the lives of Fianna Fáil TD Liam Lawlor and his driver. The sole survivor, Ukrainian-born legal adviser and businesswoman Julia Kushnir, was forgotten. This is her story.

On Saturday, October 22, 2005, the news broke that the Fianna Fáil TD Liam Lawlor had died in a car crash in Moscow. It was a sensational story involving a politician who had become infamous due to allegations that he had sold his expertise, knowledge and influence as a councillor and a TD for personal financial reward – allegations later found by a tribunal to be true.
