CSO's bid to shake off 'Lepronomics'

New measure of economy unveiled but figures still show effects of multinational activities

This time last year, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) published a controversial revision of its Irish economic figures for 2015, which showed that gross domestic product (GDP) jumped by a massive 26 per cent.

The storm over those figures –dubbed ‘leprechaun economics’- led to the formation ofan expert group to review how best to measure the performance of the Irish economy.
