Minister for Housing Simon Coveney has overturned a rezoning decision by councillors which would have paved the way for new boating facilities at a well-known beauty spot.

Councillors in Clare, including several from Coveney’s own party, had voted to rezone a site for tourism on the shore of Lough Derg in Killaloe.

This would have cleared the way for the development of new boating tourism facilities such as marinas, walkways and piers.
