County councillor mounts challenge to public office ethics hearing

Monaghan county councillor Hugh McElvaney has lodged judicial review proceedings challenging a Standards in Public Office (Sipo) hearing.

The Sipo probe follows an RTÉ Investigates programme, in which McElvaney was secretly filmed apparently soliciting a representative of a fictitious wind farm for £10,000 to support a development project that required planning permission. He was speaking to an undercover reporter.
