County councillor mounts challenge to public office ethics hearing
Hugh McElvaney lodges judicial review over secret taping by RTÉ reporter
Monaghan county councillor Hugh McElvaney has lodged judicial review proceedings challenging a Standards in Public Office (Sipo) hearing.
The Sipo probe follows an RTÉ Investigates programme, in which McElvaney was secretly filmed apparently soliciting a representative of a fictitious wind farm for £10,000 to support a development project that required planning permission. He was speaking to an undercover reporter.
A subsequent investigation by the local authority led to a complaint against him being lodged with Sipo.
