Council takes concrete steps to remove ‘Achillhenge’

Achillhenge, the controversial stone circle on Achill Island

A council is preparing to go back to the High Court to get rid of the controversial

stone circle known as Achillhenge.

It was built on Achill Island without planning permission by developer Joe McNamara

over four years ago. He was nicknamed the Anglo Avenger when he drove a cement mixer

bearing the words ‘Toxic Bank Anglo’ into the gates of Leinster House in

2010.
