Under-pressure GPs have become soft targets for venture capitalists who offer to take the ownership burden off their shoulders in the interest of profit
I still remember the two-roomed GP’s surgery I attended as a child. Patients waited quietly in the front room of a converted shop premises; then, at the ring of a buzzer, shuffled up a seat towards the doctor’s office.
This was the era of up-close, personal and enduring relationships with a solo medical practitioner. Quaint as it sounds now, this type of environment provided little professional support or challenge for the doctor.
