Coolmore, the international bloodstock empire controlled by John Magnier, has defeated for a fourth time in six years plans for a coal mine near its stud in Australia’s Hunter Valley.

The Planning Assessment Commission in New South Wales threw out the plan for open-cut mining by Anglo American saying it posed an “unacceptable” risk to stud farms in the region.
