Construction of new homes down 20 per cent in a month

The number of new homes that started construction declined between March and April, but is up by 10 per cent year on year

More than half of the new homes started in April are in Dublin

Construction began on more than 2,500 new homes in April, down 20 per cent compared to the previous month.

In the first four months of the year, 9,928 residential units were commenced, compared to 9,343 in the same period in 2022.

The government has used positive trends in the commencements metric to indicate that its housing policies have stimulated developers to build more homes.
