State has paid compensation to victims of abuse in industrial schools, women who were put into the Magdalene Laundries, and to survivors of symphysiotomy

The Minister for Children, Katherine Zappone, will push for a compensation scheme for those who were sent to mother and baby homes.

The options for government would include a compensation scheme like that in place for victims of residential abuse, which resulted in average payouts of €62,000, or a fund to pay for housing, education and health services for survivors.
