Company Watch: FBD hoping for business as usual in wake of pub claims controversy

Last week’s half-year results show the insurer in robust health, with underwriting profits up 165 per cent, a 6 per cent rise in premiums, and claims costs down thanks to new personal injury guidelines

Tomás O’Midheach, who is now well into his second year as head of FBD Insurance, will be hoping that 2022 marks the start of a relatively normal business cycle for the firm.

The 53-year-old, who became group chief executive in early 2021, spent most of his first 12 months in charge guiding FBD through the business interruption saga that has dogged the insurer since March 2020.
