Civil service pension cuts to be reversed

Lobbying effort convinces Howlin to roll back cuts to 90,000 defined-benefit pensions

Public expenditure minister Brendan Howlin is drawing up plans to reduce the cuts imposed on the pensions of 90,000 retired public sector workers.

The move will have to be funded in addition to the €566 million cost of the Lansdowne Road agreement, which provides for pay rises of €2,000 for most public sector workers over the next two years.
