Ireland 'pushed quite hard' to enter bailout programme

Kevin Cardiff, the former Department of Finance official who co-ordinated the official response to the banking crisis, has said that Ireland was "pushed quite hard" to enter the EU/IMF bailout programme in 2010.

Speaking to the Oireachtas banking inquiry, Cardiff said the push in some ways was "direct and transparent" but in other cases it came indirectly by way of anonymous media briefings and misinformation.
