The government’s proposed overhaul of the planning system will create a “veritable cat’s cradle of obstacles” that will make it far harder for the public to hold authorities to account through the courts for their decisions, a campaign group has warned.

The Oireachtas housing committee will today be told by the Irish Environmental Network (IEN) that the bill, a draft of which has been published, will “erode” local government democracy and environmental democracy.
