Call for change to District Court judges’ appointments

Representative body says “no good reason why” judges ineligible for promotion to High Court

The Association of Judges of Ireland urged the government to change the law which excludes District Court judges from being appointed to the High Court.

In a submission to the Department of Justice in January 2014, the representative body for the judiciary said there appeared to be “no good reason why” under statute District Court judges are ineligible for the promotion.
