The British government’s announcement today that it is backing a third runway at Heathrow Airport is aimed at bringing closure toa decade-long saga which still has the potential to cause political headaches for Prime Minister Theresa May.

After a cabinet meeting today, British transport secretary Chris Grayling said a new runway at Heathrow was the "best option" for the country after the Brexit vote.
