Gillian Bowler, who died last December, had an estate valued at €3.92 million, probate documents show.

One of the country’s best known businesswomen, Bowler founded Budget Travel in 1975 and built it into a major holiday business. She later sold a 90 per cent stake to Granada for €5.5 million, but stayed involved.

She became chairwoman of Irish Life & Permanent in 2004 and remained there through the financial crisis until 2011.
