British embassy seeks security contractor

Tenders are being invited from security companies for the contract, which will last for three years

The British embassy is on the hunt for new security guards for its fortress-like embassy in Ballsbridge, south Dublin.

The £100,000 (€117,000) contract to safeguard the embassy, which was built in 1995, has been advertised by the British government on its online tendering site.

One of the buildings which previously housed the embassy, on Merrion Square, was famously burned to the ground by rioters in 1972, incensed by the Bloody Sunday massacre.
