Bottoms down: Ireland cuts back on drink

We may not quite be on the wagon yet, but Ireland has greatly reduced its alcohol consumption since the heady days of the Celtic Tiger.

Alcohol consumption by Irish people has fallen by 25 per cent between 2005 and 2016, according to new figures from the World Health Organisation.

Irish people drank 10.9 litres of alcohol on average in 2016, compared to 14.41 in 2005, the WHO has found.
