Bord na Móna has acquired a 50 per cent stake in Electricity Exchange, a company which provides smart grid technology and services.

The company was co-founded by Dr Paddy Finn and Duncan O'Toole and operates a virtual power station from a 24-hour centre in Limerick.

Its technology allows the company to remotely control back-up generators and reduce power consumption in large industries across the country at times of power shortages on the grid.
