More than €5 billion of government revenue is at risk if the transport fleet is to be entirely electrified, according to John FitzGerald of the ESRI and the Climate Change Advisory Council.

FitzGerald was speaking at the Department of Finance conference on globalisation in Dublin Castle last week. The €5 billion at risk represents about 7 per cent of all government revenues and about 2 per cent of GDP.
