A two-day G20 summit of world leaders begins today in Hamburg in Germany, which currently holds the presidency of the group.

The choice of the north German city is in itself a signal of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s hopes for the talks. According to the G20 website, Merkel chose Hamburg because it is “a city that looks outwards” and has maintained trading links throughout the world.
