A spokesperson for junior education minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor said “no decision had been made” as to whether the positions would be open to transgender applicants, adding that the attorney general Seamus Woulfe was now examining the “final wording” of adverts that will appear.

Transgender refers to a person whose gender identity or expression is not the same as the sex assigned at birth.
