US debt stand-off could cause a backlash against Biden

Democrats are seeking ways to get around a potential Republican-triggered default that could lead to a global recession and the loss of eight million US jobs

On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with House and Senate leaders in an attempt to dispel the storm cloud of default that’s looming on the US horizon. While there’s little optimism that the talks will yield a solution, the US economy remains surprisingly resilient, according to Labour Department figures released on Friday morning that show American employers added 253,000 jobs in April compared with just 149,000 in March.
