Last week, the well-known Dublin businessman Peter White faced off against US private equity giant CarVal in the first round of what is promising to be an acrimonious legal showdown.

The restaurateur and property developer is being sued, along with his wife Alicia and their son Trevor, the well-known museum director and former publisher, for alleged non-payment of debts of €5.6 million. The proceedings were admitted to the fast-track Commercial Court list amid bitter accusations...
