The former US president has drunk deeply from the well of the National Rifle Association’s coffers in recent years, and showed his gratitude by being the star turn at its flagship event on Friday

“Unlike some, I didn’t disappoint you by not showing up,” boasted Donald Trump in his capacity as the keynote speaker at the National Rifle Association’s annual Five Fs jamboree in Houston, Texas on Friday, where upwards of 60,000 people gathered for a three-day celebration of “faith, firearms, family, friends and the flag”.
