State seeks advice from OECD and British experts on key pension scheme

The Department of Social Protection has enlisted the help of an OECD pensions expert and a senior British government official to advise it on how to proceed with plans for a new pension saving scheme.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, recently announced plans to establish an inter-departmental working group to examine plans for a new universal pension saving scheme.

The ‘Universal Retirement Savings Development Group’, which is chaired by the Department of Social Protection and also includes representatives from the Department of Finance, the Revenue Commissioners, the Central Bank and the Pensions Authority, is scheduled to hold its second meeting this week.
