Snipers open fire on Dallas police killing five officers at public demonstration

Obama describes shootings as "vicious, calculated and despicable"

US President Barack Obama, speaking from Warsaw where he was meeting European Council presidents, has asked the American people to pray for the five Dallas police officers killed by snipers last night. He said the shootings were "vicious, calculated and despicable."

He said that justice would be done in relation to the dead officers. Seven others were also wounded during a demonstration protesting shootings by officers in Minnesota and Louisiana this week.
