Screen test: Will there be a happy ending for Ireland’s cinemas?

The sector was hit hard by the rise of streaming during the pandemic, but all is far from lost

A sign outside Screen 2 of the Omniplex in Rathmines last Sunday said that seating was assigned for the showing of Bullet Train, a star-studded action movie featuring Brad Pitt as a former assassin alongside Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum.

There was really no need, as the sparsely populated theatre meant anyone who wanted to watch the movie had their choice of seat, despite the film being widely promoted as a summer blockbuster.
