Reilly kept silent about funding cuts during equality poll

Minister knew of €400k cut in funding for marriage preparation course when he met bishop

Children’s Minister James Reilly knew of controversial cuts in funding for Catholic marriage preparation courses four months in advance, new documents show.

The cancellation of €378,000 in funding for the marriage preparation courses run by Accord was announced in the middle of the marriage equality referendum campaign last May. But new documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act showed that Reilly had been briefed about the planned cut four months earlier.
