The former Irish ambassador Dr Ray Bassett has warned that the British and Irish governments need to be able to carry out their own separate Brexit negotiations on the North.

This would fly in the face of the ruling from EU leaders that all negotiations have to be managed by Brussels, with no permission for any side negotiations.
