A political commentator on a weekday radio breakfast show last week said he was sceptical of opinion polls generally. The reason for his comment was a poll just published which showed Sinn Féin on 24 per cent, just 1 per cent behind Fianna Fáil, and he simply didn’t believe it. He suggested that if a general election turned out such a result, he would do the show in his boxer shorts.
