Policy holders still waiting to feel benefits of insurance reforms

Eighteen months on from the Judicial Council report, little progress has been made on the cost of business insurance, while motorists are waiting for greater cuts to their premiums

By the time Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns highlighted the “immediate and urgent danger” posed by Ireland’s generous insurance payouts in 2017, efforts at reform had been ongoing for years.

“I have reached a point, not only in my legal life but in my life generally, where I am convinced a moment has come in this country where something really has to be done about our compensation culture,” the former president of the High Court said.
