PLC teachers baulk at bid to end summer breaks

Staff resisting plans to scrap three-month holiday

Around 5,000 PLC teachers are resisting plans to get them to stop taking their three-month summer holidays as part of the overhaul of the further education sector.

The issue has arisen due to the merger of Post-Leaving Cert colleges and former Fás training centres under the same control structure.

Fás training colleges operate all year round, but PLC colleges, which provide courses for adults, are closed for the summer just like secondary schools....
