O'Brien loses defamation case against the Post

Businessman Denis O'Brien has lost his High Court defamation action against The Sunday Business Post.

After more than seven hours of deliberations spread over two days, the jury delivered a majority verdict finding in favour of the newspaper.

Having attended daily at the trial, O'Brien was not in court for the verdict this evening. The costs of the 17 day hearing were awarded against the businessman.

In a statement, the newspaper's chief executive Siobhan Lennon welcomed the result.
