No strike decision at ASTI meeting

Further strike action is not set for discussion at a meeting this week of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland’s (ASTI) Standing Committee, which decides on industrial action, including strike action.

While the junior cycle dispute will be on the meeting agenda, a spokeswoman for the ASTI said it was unlikely that any decision on strike action would be made. The meeting will take place on March 26 and 27 ahead of the ASTI annual conference. The ASTI and Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) are continuing to operate industrial action directives. These include a restriction on teachers participating in junior cycle reform training.
