A Fine Gael councillor in Donegal has sensationally quit the party just days after he was elected, claiming he and his family were subjected to personal attacks by party members.

Frank McBrearty, a high-profile figure in Donegal, resigned from Fine Gael last Thursday morning and now plans to issue legal proceedings against another Fine Gael councillor over remarks he alleges were made about him and against the party over the stress it has caused him.
